New Year's Tag...and Happy New Year!

It's very cosy here, with snow falling and all of us sitting around playing video games and vegging out. :D I like quiet New Year's Eves...although I would not be opposed to a gold sequin cocktail dress-worthy gathering someday. ;)

We had a fantastic Christmas and I will post more on that...I know, I know. Sometime in my life. Hehe.

Anyway! Here's a tag for today, like I do every year. Traditioooon, tradition!

What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
Performed for several different events. Traveled - on a plane - all by my lonesome! Got the wheels turning for some pretty exciting stuff that I'm going to talk more about soon! :)

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make one this year?
I've pretty much given up on resolutions. :D

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Um...no.

Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

What countries/states did you visit?
Indiana for Kate's wedding!!! Wow, an entire year and our family didn't travel anywhere? Sweet. After years of constant traveling on deputation, staying put is quite lovely.

What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A driver's license. Hehe. More money. I sound like such a mercenary. Cut me some slack...I'm just a poor missionary kid. ;)

What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory?

August 10th - Kate's wedding!

Did you move anywhere?
Not this year. You never know, though...

What was the best month?
August. Kate’s wedding. Saw Kate get married and spent two weeks with Tori. :)

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being a bridesmaid? ;)

What was your biggest failure?
Not being where I should be at this time.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really.

What was the best thing you bought?
Doctor Who: The David Tennant Years. Hehehe. Um...finally saving up for a phone!

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Valentino and Kate for getting married. ;)

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Lots of people, sigh. This year was epic for appalling and depressing behaivor. ;)

Where did most of your money go?
Target.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Kate's wedding. Our new church.

What was the best concert you’ve been to this year?
I saw Les Miz live (which I really should post about before I see the movie and review that. :D). Does that count? Because it was pure EPICNESS.

What song/album will always remind you of 2012?

Defying Gravity from Wicked.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
1. happier or sadder?
Happier
2. thinner or fatter? *cough*.
3. richer or poorer? *cough, cough*...it's not richer, I can tell ya that. Hehe. ;)

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Actually, I'm rather happy with how the year went, considering.

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Worried, because it doesn't help anything.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
I saw a bootleg of Wicked, and it shot the musical up to one of my favorites. Just really identified with Elphaba and the story.

How did you spend Christmas?
With my family!

How are you spending New Year’s?
Nice and cozy with my family - junk food, Pirates of the Caribbean marathon, multiplayer video games and perhaps an episode of Doctor Who or Sherlock or two.  Snow is coming down in thick flakes and a fire is roaring. And I'm chilling looking very classy in pjs and messy bun all day. Don't judge. ;)

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
I didn't do an extensive amount of phone-chatting this year. Probably Tori.

What was the best book you read?
Discovered The Help - amazing minus some language - and The Hunger Games trilogy, which I count as a guilty pleasure. ;)

Did you fall in love in 2012?
Nope, and I'm quite happy with it. :)

What was your favorite TV show?

(clever conglomeration of the answers to this question, no? :-P)

I discovered what has become my very favorite TV show evah, Doctor Who! Also the incredible Sherlock, which I love *almost* as much as DW. :) Oh, and I became obsessed with The Lizzie Bennet Diaries recently. Love them. A modernized version of Pride and Prejudice in the format of Lizzie telling her story through vlogs...a bit of language now and then but I love it. Aaaannd, my fanatical Janeite readers may be interested in knowing, it motivated me to try and finally get through Pride and Prejudice. As in the book. I'm about a third of the way through. Talk about life accomplishment. And FTR, so far Elizabeth and Darcy do not remind me of The Famous Ones from That Film in 95...cough, cough...

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is such a strong word. :-P

What did you want and get?
I finally saved up for a phone.

What did you want and not get?
I honestly don't know. I'm pretty happy with my possessions. ;)

What were your favourite films of this year?
Sleepless in Seattle
Avengers
(and the other movies - Iron Man, Captain America, Thor...)

While You Were Sleeping
Letters to Juliet

Enchanted
You've Got Mail
Hamlet
(DT version. DUH. ;))

Does Les Miserables in a few days count? I mean, technically that IS 2013...but I have to stick it in somewhere. ;)
While I do not claim to be a LOTR geek, I did enjoy The Hobbit very much.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 and had a nice day with the family.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Bling. Ruffles. Scarves. Sequins. Big jewelry. High heels. Leopard print. Kind of boho/shabby chic.

What kept you sane?
My family. Vegging on Doctor Who. Pinterest. Heheee.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

*cough*. Hehe. *cough*. First name starts with a D and ends with a D...and last name starts with a T and ends with a T...*cough*...

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less stress! :D It was quite a trial-filled year…although there was so much great stuff to make up for it.

What political issue stirred you the most?
The Election. sigh.

Who did you miss?
Friends.

Who was the best new person you met?
I got to know so many of you awesome bloggy readers through blogging and especially Pinterest! :)

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.

For evil to flourish, all that is needed is for good people to do (or say) nothing.

The only people mad at you for speaking the truth are those living a lie. Keep speaking it.

If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.

Examine everything you believe by the Bible. Do you believe it because God said so or because people have done it that way forever or because it “makes” sense? You'd be amazed how many things we do not because it's Biblical but just because "someone says it's so".

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Something has changed within me,
Something is not the same.
I'm through with playing by
The rules of someone else's game.
Too late for second guessing,
Too late to go back to sleep.
It's time to trust my instincts,
Close my eyes and leap!

I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so.
Some things I cannot change,
But till I try, I'll never know.
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost.
Well, if that's love,
It comes at much too high a cost!

So if you care to find me,
Look to the Western sky!
As someone told me lately,
Everyone deserves a chance to fly!
And if I'm flying solo,
At least I'm flying free!
To those who'd ground me,
Take a message back from me...

Tell them how I'm defying gravity,
I'm flying high defying gravity!

And soon I'll match them in renown.
And nobody in all of Oz,
No Wizard that there is or was,
Is ever gonna bring me down!

Five personally significant events of 2012:
I was a bridesmaid
I learned some really big lessons
We started a church
Took some big steps in voice
Became a Whovian. Hehe.

Five things I want to do in 2013:

Finally get through a Jane Austen novel (I think I can, I think I can...).
Get further in voice.
Get a part in a play (wishful thinking, but still...fun)
Get a driver's license finally.

Try being ginger (I'm planning for a temporary rinse right now...but I need to take the plunge and try!)

Five people I’d like to know better in 2013:
Hmm. My blog readers!

Happy New Year, everyone! Thank you all so much for sticking around! I'm so grateful for each and every one of you!

Sounds like a good year on the whole : ) I'll comment on your love of the Marvel movies. How do you feel about Loki? I love him to a slightly alarming level. I like my bad boys who secretly just want to be loved
; )What cast was in that Wicked bootleg? And you love Sherlock! You are cool!

I LOVE this post!!! :D Love all the DW, Sherlock, Brit stuff! Also...I am SO glad to see I am not the only fan of period drama who can barely get through an Austen novel. I really am. :D And I want to be a ginger as well. :)

Yay! I'm trying to get back to responding to comments again. ;)

Rissi - thank you! Happy New Year to you, too!

Bella - yes, you are more than welcome to do the tag! Forgot to mention it. :) Welcome to anyone who wants to!

Indigo - Ahhh, Loki. While I adore Tom Hiddleston and I extreeeeemely appreciate Loki's three-dimensional character (HATE cardboard villains), I'm not as much as a fangirl as some of my Avenger friends. But I can appreciate his baddie awesomeness. :D

The Wicked cast was Megan Hilty as Glinda and Eden Espinosa as Elphaba. Amazing and Megan Hilty is a superb Galinda! Anyway, it was on YouTube last I saw...if you haven't seen it you absolutely must!

Little Lady - YAYYYY! Perfectly-Legit-Non-Austen-Fans Unite! ;) It's not a intentionally going against the grain thing...the books just have never quite held the charm they do for other people. I desperately would love to adore her books the way others do...but yeah. :D

I think your blog to be quite fun and enjoyable! Thanks for being such a loyal writer. One question: Why on earth was Sleepless in Seattle #1 on your favorite movie list for the year?
I do apologize if I seem brusque; my not-romantic side is quite large and rash at times!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012

How about 3?

1) Never let the world turn you cold and never let yourself fall because someone hurt you.
2) Even if someone isn't your wings try to be someone else's.
3)Be bold!

Quote a song that sums up your year

"...Now I need more than ever
My God to be near me.
Do you hear when I call?
Are you there after all?
I am so small on this earth,
I'm nothing without You.
Daring to doubt You at all is a knife to my heart.
Little by little
I'm losing my way in the shadows.
I am losing my hope!
And the world fall apart.
You have to be there, You have to, My life I have placed at Thy feet
And without You I am drifting
On dark and stormy sea.
You have to be there You have to
Without You I drown in the deep
Too far, too far from land
The waters drag me down
I reach for Your Hand

This is a seriously awesome new year's tag...I will definitely have to do this next year.
