Sooooooooooooz! Yesterday was a super-hectic day and I've got to run out the door for work, so this shall be short-and-sweet. :)
One of the complete beauties of musical theatre is that in the course of a hit show, you have so many talented people who put their own stamp on the characters. Unless of course the director casts a total dud choice. Like someone I think we could all name who tried being a Lovesick Student Who Became a Barricade Boy Wanna-be. Anyway, this is not about that, this is about Wicked.
So. Two comparison posts coming....one on Elphaba's big showstopper and my personal favorite, and one on Galinda's song, which was the first song I heard from the musical. :) Without further ado, some of my favorite versions of "Popular".
Kristin Chenoweth - The original Galinda next to Idina Menzel's Elphaba, she is complete and total genius. I have insane jealously issues over her incredible talent. She's gorgeous, she's got a killer voice with a range to absolutely, completely die for, she's hilarious (and she's a Christian, to boot). My mom has also been mistaken for her on several occasions, so she's kind of a household name here. :) Anyway, her Galinda obviously set the stage for the others, and she plays her as kind of a "reformed mean girl", with a bit of cattiness to the character that slowly changes as her character develops. (This was also her last Popular, so she added her own twist. :))
Megan Hilty - The first Galinda I "saw", Megan is also known for being the most...energetic. Her Galinda acts like she just came off the set of Toddlers and Tiaras, complete with squeals, a bit of tantruming, and the energy of a four-year-old on Red Bull. She's honestly one of my favorites. :)
Annaleigh Ashford - In complete contrast to Megan, Annaleigh's Galinda is quite a bit more "airheady", definitely a "dumb blonde" vibe going. I really love her reactions in the first part of the video. :)
Alli Mauzey - If I'm not mistaken, she is the present Galinda on Broadway. I love the personal extras each Galinda adds. :)

So.....which is your favorites? :)
